There's no way in hell the track organizers would have been held "liable" for my actions....things really don't work that way in Canada. If you disobey a clear sign and hurt yourself as a result, a judge would literally laugh at you and throw the case away if you ever tried to sue. As for the hypothetical track employee you speak of, like I said, our standard policy in Canada is "every person is responsible for their own actions", so if they put up a barricade and a sign, their job has been done. I've never heard of a Canadian getting rich by spilling hot coffee on himself, we're expected to be aware that we're holding something hot. ;-)
